Earlier called Wanneroo Park, it got its new name after Alf Barbagallo funded laying down a circuit at the park. The park has a decent seating arrangement and can host 50000 fans at a time. During racing season, the place comes alive with screaming fans who cheer for their favorite driver and his car. Though the track is home to many races, it is the V8 Supercar championship that draws the maximum number of spectators to the track.

In 2004, the track, which had become rugged and unsuitable for driving, was again re-laid which made the tracks smooth and gripping once again. It allowed for many types of racing, and even truck racing started at Barbagallo raceway. Of late, as the contract with the V8 Supercar website has ended, there are reports that the track may not be used at this entire calendar. This is very disappointing news for the sport lovers and also a huge blow to the government as it used to produce huge revenue for the government.
